You probably read the game summary on any of the sports´ online site so I won´t summarize the game. I got inside the stadium 11 mins into the game because I had to wait in the same line where they buys tickets in order to get my season passes and they weren´t even there. So I had to wait. Finally when someone came down, they told me they weren´t ready yet and that they wouldn´t until next week. What a joke.
About the game, bottom line, it was a mess. I just hope it´s a fluke. Here are some things that standed out.
* Pocho played from the start as if he had already played 90 mins of futbol. He looked so tired and couldn´t run to save his life. He didn´t start in the second half so I hope it´s nothing bad.
* The team was inconsistent throughout the whole game and they had a few instances of greatness but just a few; if they would have been able to capitalize on just one of them, the game would have ended in a tie.
* Jorge Bernal pretty much kept us from being blown out at home. He saved some great (and not so great) shots from Pumas and you can´t really blame him for the 2 goals he let pass. Both were really great scores (one being a golazo). Lets hope he keeps it up.
* Jose Gonzalez just got better as the game went on. He was almost always running after the lose balls and pressuring the players from Pumas to make a quick pass/play before they wanted to, which would make them commit a turnover. I hope everyone else on the team takes page from his dedication book, with the exception of
* Mario Perez because he was the player of the game for Necaxa in my mind. He turn most dead-end situations into plays and was always finding the open man. He was the main reason for most of the scoring chances that Necaxa failed to capitalize on. Just from tonight´s game, I see him as a threat to visiting teams. Let just hope that´s the case.
* I have never seen anyone in futbol fall down so many times as I did when German Villa touched the ball. ALMOST every time he touched it, FLOP, he would drop. What was up with this guy. It really pissed me off especially when one of the last plays of the game, Necaxa has a clear chance of tying up the game but this guy couldn´t even get a shot off. He just dropped and there were on Pumas players around him. Seriously! It looked as if it were his first game ever and was so nervous and scared that someone might foul him, that he instead preferred to do a preemptive drop. Seriously, I´m not exaggerating. He really pissed me off!!!
Again, I hope this was just a fluke and that the main reason for this mess of a game was because they are still getting to know each other and so they haven´t gelled yet. And it seems that Villa did all the falling for the 2009 season so he won´t fall again (right, Villa?).
It´s still early in the season and next week they visit Puebla so I think they got a chance to get back the 3 points from home that they lost. I´m still optimistic. I mean I gotta be, I have no choice. I´ll be at Victoria every other Saturday until May.
I hope my 2 cents made any sense.
